I think he's here to stay.

He better be.
I understand being cautious with the kid, but he's a horse, so I hope the leash of 80-90 pitches comes off soon. As I said, the fastball is very crisp, the curveball is downright filthy and the only thing that's going to help him get better is to stay here.

I think he's here to stay. Agreed! This is the first time I saw him live & was impressed. He has unlimited potential.

as the season went on last year, Phil threw harder and harder. This year he should be even stronger as the year goes on.

sucks that the umpire had to interfere with his first day stats but he had some real flashes of what the future holds. You gotta love his poise on the mound.

He was outstanding in his post game interview, too.

I don't think it's anything major.
He's got a plus change now.

Cashman: Popped hamstring that will be MRIed when we return to NYC. We'll know more tomorrow.

MRI in NY tomorrow. Cashman looks like somebody just ran over his dog, so my earlier optimism was misplaced. The very good news is that it's a leg injury, and he can come back (he said it was similar to something that happened in high school.) Arm injuries are a far bigger concern with pitchers-especially young ones.

I wonder if anyone has ever left their second major league start with a no-hitter before.

He'll have the MRI tomorrow...we should know how long we'll miss him. Keep your fingers crossed!

Moose was just talking about how Phil got them off to a great start and it was tough on "us" to lose him.

Moose was just talking about how Phil got them off to a great start and it was tough on "us" to lose him. I can't imagine any member of the Yankees not being blown away by what Phil did on Tuesday. That was the most exciting baseball I've seen in years.

I like that Moose gave him respect, and I think he is going to develop all the faster for having veteran pitchers who value and respect him around.

He threw 25 pitches off a half mound today. If he feels okay tomorrow, he'll probably go to the big mound on Thursday.

He's pitching now. In the first, he walked two, K'd two and gave up and unearned run. No hits, though.

It's gonna be interesting to see what happens.
He'll probably pitch in Trenton on Saturday, but 5 days later, both Trenton and Scranton are on the road. He could pitch with Trenton on the 19th in New Britain, or if all goes well, he could be in the Bronx that night.

Hughes 3.0 3 0 0 0 6 0 0.00
start #2. He hasn't pitched enough to get his fastball back to where it was late last year.
