May 26, 2007 Clemens Will Make Another Start in the Minors By DAVID PICKER
Roger Clemens will start for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday, General Manager Brian Cashman said yesterday. But Cashman kept his options open when addressing the question that every Yankees fan wants answered: When will Clemens join the team?
“We’ll take it start by start,” Cashman said. “We’re evaluating him after each start. I’ve said prior to this that we want him when he’s ready, no sooner than that and no later than that. His preparation is to get back and try to help this team. He takes his next step into Scranton, and we’ll see what we see after Monday’s start.”
There had been talk of Clemens’s making his season debut Tuesday in Toronto. But that died down after Clemens appeared shaky Wednesday, in his second start in the minors since announcing his return to the Yankees earlier this month. He threw 102 pitches in five and a third innings for Class AA Trenton, allowing three runs, six hits and four walks.
If Clemens pitches well Monday and feels ready to join the Yankees, he would be on track to pitch against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on June 2. But the Yankees already have their most proven starters — Chien-Ming Wang, Mike Mussina and Andy Pettitte — lined up for that series. After the Red Sox series, the Yankees play a four-game series against the White Sox in Chicago beginning June 4.
Cashman said that Clemens, who made his first minor league start for Class A Tampa last week, threw a bullpen session in Houston yesterday without any problems.
Asked why Clemens was not joining the Yankees after two starts in the minors, Cashman said, “It’s hard to be ready, especially after just two.”
Cashman also had news on two other pitchers. Phil Hughes, who is on the disabled list with a hamstring injury, rolled his left ankle during an agility drill in Tampa, Fla. He was scheduled to have a magnetic resonance imaging test later yesterday or today to determine the severity of the injury.
Cashman also said Kei Igawa, who had been at Class A Tampa, would start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

Noticed today that all the local talking heads are saying "at least" one more rehab start.

Rocket says he's ready to blast off Posted: Tuesday May 29, 2007 06:21AM ET When Roger Clemens ended his press conference last night by pounding the table and walking away, you knew right then that the Rocket is ready to blast off against the Red Sox or White Sox. The truth is Clemens said he could have pitched last night against the Blue Jays, if the Yankees had allowed him to be with the big club instead of Triple-A Scranton.--New York Post

Randy Johnson is no longer traveling with the Diamondbacks on road trips in which he doesn't pitch. Wonder if this will be a major story, like it is with Clemens. Somehow, I'm guessing it won't be.

Injury grounds Rocket from series Posted: Sunday June 03, 2007 07:28AM ET A groin injury will keep Roger Clemens off the field for at least the Yankees' series against the White Sox. Kei Igawa is expected to start in his place.--New York Times

I would rather they bring back the rookie who gave up the hr's to Boston. At least he was doing well until the hr's rattled him. Igawa scares me every time he pitches.

Chase Wright has had a problem with homers in AAA, too. He needs to stay down and get that straightened out.

Clemens to relaunch against Pirates? Posted: Monday June 04, 2007 05:55AM ET Roger Clemens, who was examined by Dr. Allen Miller yesterday, is pointing to the launching of Rocket II Saturday against the Pirates at Yankee Stadium, but Joe Torre said everything hinges on the MRI results.--New York Post

MRI OK, so Clemens hopes to start Saturday Test shows disrupted scar tissue in 44-year-old Yankee pitcher's groin The Associated Press Updated: 6:49 p.m. ET June 4, 2007 CHICAGO - Roger Clemens still hopes to make his 2007 Yankees debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday after an MRI exam showed he had a scar tissue injury in his right groin. Clemens had originally planned to start Monday night at the Chicago White Sox. He scratched himself from the outing on Saturday because of what the Yankees said then was a fatigued groin, an injury that he first felt during a minor league outing May 28. “We knew (the MRI) wasn’t going to show anything,” manager Joe Torre said. “He’s had previous problems there. Just the fact that there was old scar tissue leads us to believe he’ll pitch Saturday.” He had an MRI exam Monday in Tampa, Fla., and Yankees spokesman Jason Zillo said the scan showed Clemens had disrupted scar tissue. Clemens played catch Monday in the outfield during a 2-hour, 50-minute workout at the Yankees minor league complex. Most of the workout and treatment took place indoors. He didn’t stop to talk with reporters when he departed. The seven-time Cy Young Award winner plans to throw a bullpen session in Tampa on Wednesday, Zillo said. “As desperate as we want to have him get going with all of us, we can’t have him go down and be out for awhile,” said Andy Pettitte, who left Sunday’s start against Boston with a stiff back. Pettitte was feeling better Monday and plans to make Friday’s scheduled start against Pittsburgh. Matt DeSalvo started Monday’s game after being recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz went on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right wrist. In his latest comeback, the 44-year-old Clemens took a prorated share of a $28 million salary hoping to help New York overcome a double-digit deficit in the AL East. He made three minor-league tuneup starts and pitched six scoreless innings in his most recent one for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, allowing two hits and striking out six on May 28. But he also felt pain in his groin during that game. “We know he’s going to help,” Johnny Damon said. “We actually feel like our team is starting to hit the ball better. Our pitchers are getting better. Our big thing is hopefully, our pitchers can go deep in the game so our bullpen isn’t overexposed.” www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19003013/

Clemens could pitch Saturday Posted: Wednesday June 06, 2007 06:17AM ET Today, at the Yankees' minor league complex in Tampa, Roger Clemens will throw in a bullpen session surrounded by Yankee decision makers. Pitching gurus Nardi Contreras and Billy Connors will be there. And GM Brian Cashman, in town for pre-draft meetings, will likely watch Clemens. "We anticipate him Saturday," Torre said.--New York Post
Critic won't clear air with Clemens Posted: Wednesday June 06, 2007 06:12AM ET Kyle Farnsworth told a Chicago radio station that Roger Clemens's agreement with the Yankees, which allows him to leave the team on days he is not pitching, might cause tension. Three weeks later, with Clemens preparing to join the Yankees, Farnsworth said people took his words out of context. When they become teammates, Farnsworth said, he will not approach Clemens to clear the air.--New York Times

Maybe Farns should approach Clemens for advice on how to pitch better.

How Rocket must improve in next start Posted: Sunday June 10, 2007 08:36AM ET Joe Torre says Roger Clemens will get sharper. Jorge Posada predicted the legend can add muscle to the fastball. Those assessments need to be correct because Clemens will require better command and a few more miles on the heater when he faces stronger lineups than he did yesterday.--New York Post

Rocket may miss next start Posted: Tuesday September 04, 2007 06:10AM ET Roger Clemens told teammates and staff members at the party he won't know the results of the test on the right elbow until today, he was looking forward to returning as soon as possible. However, it's likely Clemens will miss his next start.--New York Post

Clemens resorts to cortisone Posted: Wednesday September 05, 2007 06:16AM ET Roger Clemens said he would pitch again this season despite an inflamed right elbow that forced him from Monday's start after four innings. He planned to fly to Houston today to be examined by the Astros' team doctor. Clemens said he would get a cortisone shot, the first time he has ever had one in his arm over 24 major league seasons.--New York Times

Rocket's future remains cloudy Posted: Saturday September 08, 2007 08:13AM ET The cloud of uncertainty that Roger Clemens vanished into Wednesday is still hovering above the Yankees universe. Since talking to Clemens on Tuesday, Joe Torre said yesterday he hasn't had a conversation with the pitcher, who if healthy and the Yankees qualify for the postseason, would be their No. 3 starter. If all goes well, the Yankees likely will start Clemens a week from tomorrow in Fenway Park against the AL East-leading Red Sox. The fact Clemens hasn't been scheduled yet leaves the situation cloudy.--New York Post

"No doubt," he said, adding that he did not expect this to be the Yankees' last trip to Boston.--New York Times

Saving Clemens for playoffs Posted: Wednesday September 26, 2007 05:37AM ET Roger Clemens is confident he will be able to make a postseason start. However, he won't pitch again in the regular season. Clemens, who arrived at the Yankees' minor league complex Monday morning and threw off a mound, may have pushed his balky left hamstring a bit too far working out in a pool Monday night.--New York Post

Clemens closing out career? Posted: Sunday October 07, 2007 07:20AM ET There is no inside information or sentiment from the New York Yankees organization, no source. But those who have reported on Roger Clemens's career sense that if he loses tonight, he will have pitched his final game. But if he returns, it probably will be after he's had surgery to repair ligament damage in his elbow. Would he really do that and go through a grueling rehab at 45?--Boston Globe
