Mark Prior, who has been hit hard in both of his appearances this spring, will next pitch in a minor league game on Thursday. "His confidence is playing with him a little bit," manager Lou Piniella said. "I told him, 'Look, you have to relax.' I think this is the right approach. If I didn't think it was the right approach, I wouldn't send him down there. He can go down there and relax and just pitch. He doesn't have to answer to the media. Leave him alone, let him pitch." Maybe a confidence boost will help, but Prior will have to retire major league batters later if he wants to open the season with the Cubs. mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070311&content_id=1837953&vkey=spt2007news&fext=.jsp

An Update: The Chicago Sun-Times refers to Mark Prior as the "dark horse" candidate for the Cubs' fifth starter job. Wade Miller, Angel Guzman and Neal Cotts are listed as the primary competition for the slot, which shows just how unimpressive Prior has looked thus far in camp. Manager Lou Piniella said Monday that Carlos Zambrano, Ted Lilly, Jason Marquis and Rich Hill will start the first four games of the season in that order. www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/294422,CST-SPT-cubnt13.article

For all the crap we give to Torre, at least he isn't as bad as Baker. I would fear for Hughes' career if Baker was the Yankees manager.

Baker vs Torre:
Torre abuses set-up pitchers and makes absurd line-up choices and dopey strategic moves.
Baker abuses starters and relievers.

Yeah, I far prefer Torre to Baker.

Looks like Wood and Prior will both start the year on the DL. Prior should have signed with us when we drafted him

Baker should be executed for how he ruined Prior. Wood likely would have gotten hurt anyway because of that motion.

He should cut Dusty's arm off in retribution.

Prior tops out at 90 mph now. He was mostly throwing in the 80's during spring training.
