I heard somewhere that the boss wanted to see "there next two games" after Friday night's loss as far as Joey Greentea's job security. I know a lot of us would like to see him gone by Tuesday, but I'm still in doubt that it will happen.

I doubt it happens, but it should.

Dave, as you and Phil and sin and a host of others have said repeatedly, it should have happened after 2004.

I keep hoping to wake up to a firing, but it never happens.

The nightmare continues. Torre isn't going anywhere. Steinbrenner has become a wimp.

Boss silent on Torre's future Posted: Wednesday June 20, 2007 06:35AM ET Interpreting George Steinbrenner's silence is always dangerous. He might not think being 35-33 and nine games out is something to feel good about. Or he might not want to address Joe Torre's future. If Steinbrenner has been paying attention he has to be impressed with the turnaround, something the players believe was facilitated by Torre's calming presence when the Yankees' sky was falling. Still, The Boss doesn't seem overly impressed. Maybe, like others, he believes the resurgence is due more to the competition ( White Sox, Pirates, Diamondbacks and Mets) than anything else.--New York Post

Jeter praises Torre's work this season Posted: Tuesday July 31, 2007 08:05AM ET Despite the fact that the Yankees might miss the playoffs for the first time in Joe Torre's dozen years as the team's manager, Derek Jeter came to his manager's defense, saying Torre has done a "great job" this season. George Steinbrenner has refused to discuss an extension for Torre, whose contract expires at the end of the season.--New York Post

Yankees free agents waiting on Torre Posted: Friday August 24, 2007 07:52AM ET Joe Torre is doing a wonderful job as a lame-duck manager, and his future will have an impact on what free agents Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens will do following the World Series. Since Alex Rodriguez doesn't have the history the others do with Torre, the manager's future doesn't expect to play a role in Rodriguez's decision to opt out and become a free agent or stay.--New York Post

Cashman to decide Torre's fate Posted: Monday September 03, 2007 08:12AM ET The notion of whether Joe Torre even wanted to come back as manager had been tabled since spring training, and for the longest time this season it didn't seem to matter. But as the Mariners and Tigers have opened the door in the wild-card race, October suddenly looms for the Yankees, and Torre's time may not be up after all.--N.Y. Daily News

Surprised that we have not heard about Jeter stepping up for Joe. Maybe he is making his opinions known privately to George or his sons.
From a pr point, the Yanks should rehire Joe for 2 years, and at the same time announce that Donnie will take over in 2010. If the Yanks suffer a letdown next year, it is all set for Donnie to move into the managerial seat one year earlier.

Torre should not be anywhere near this team again. Two years would be a mistake of epic proportions. He oversaw the biggest collapse in postseason history and hasn't guided his team out of the first round since. How many chances does the guy get. Its unreal.

Dave-agreed. I can't believe how many people are ready to forget the Cairo at 1B (among dozens of similar idiocies) from just a few months ago. The people who say he wasn't responsible for the 21-29 start should bear that (among other things) in mind when they're willing to give him credit for 96-00, but no responsibility for what's happened since.
