I like that Tabata is stealing bases. Would like to see some power but I know that is a tough league to hit home runs.

That park has nothing to sheild the wind coming in over the left field fence so it knocks down a lot of right handed hitters hits. So there's a park factor to add to that nasty league factor working against Tabata and the rest of our kids.

Went to Sarasota Reds at Tampa Yanks tonight. Yanks lose 6-5 in 14 innings.
#54 Starter Elvys Quezada has no ball movement. Throws hard (no gun so I can't give numbers) but looks like he's trying to place the ball. His own error and a walk led to a two run double in the first. Innings 2-4 uneventful and moderately effiicent. Single-caught stealing-walk-double in the 5th for another run, HR and a sac fly RBI on his runner in the 6th for 5 runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, an error and 5 Ks in 5-1/3.
#48 Jose Valdez pitched 1-2/3. Struck out 4 of 5, with the SAC as the 5th out. He looks like a young El Duque in body and motion. He works extremely fast. Strong RHP. I was impressed.
#41 Josh Schmidt had 2-1/3 strong innings with a good curve and ball movement, mixing up pitches and had 5 Ks.
Arias Wordekemper and Kroenke also pitched 2/3, 3 and the loss. Didn't show anything special to me. Valdez and Schmidt impressed me but Schmidt was coming off a bad reliefe appearance. One game, one day is not a lot of data...
#6 The SS Coronas made 4 errors and was hitless with a walk and sac fly rbi in 7 ABs. His errors came on routine plays except for one but it was a makeable play. Dreadful night.
#21 Battle had a double in the 14th inning but was weak at the plate the other 6 ABs. Got a hit on a dribbler. Another dribbler was ruled a hit then changed to an error. His looking K in the 7th inning rally was awful.
Hits and GIDP or line out DP were the norm. No one had any power displays. A couple of long towering flies.
#34 C Cervelli kept a lot of balls in front of him that should have been picked up on the bounce. He did not look great and he shook his head a lot.
The Reds manager was tossed after an arguement where a batter was waking to first on what he thought was ball 4. The ump must have told him to get back and he asked why or what or something and the ump called him out. The mgr Joe Ayrault comes out screaming and cussing and gets tossed. He piles dirt on the plate and leaves. The ump cleans the plate and tries to resume play when Joe runs out and does it again. Hilarious. Except he was throwing out f-bombs and little kids were there. The crowd of 200-300 was so small and quiet you heard every word. I was right behing the plate but he could be heard anywhere.

Knology Park Tampa Yankees at the Dunedin Blue Jays May 16, 2007
Another Florida West Coast trip and another opportunity for a Florida State A League Game. I went to see the Tampa Yankees at the Dunedin Blue Jays. Here is the official and somewhat incorrect wrap up from MiLB.com:
"Tampa Yankees hold off Blue Jays, May 16, 2007
Daniel McCutchen pitched seven solid innings and Juan Miranda homered to lead Tampa past Dunedin, 4-3, on Wednesday at Knology Park. McCutchen (3-0) gave up one run on seven hits while striking out seven to win his second straight start. The right-hander has allowed just seven earned runs over 32 innings this season. Eric Wordekemper picked up his ninth save, despite allowing one run on two hits in the ninth inning.
Miranda hit his fourth homer in the second to give the Yankees (18-19) a 1-0 lead. He lifted a sacrifice fly to snap a 2-2 tie in the eighth before Kevin Russo's groundout plated Tim Battle.
Jacob Butler, who hit his sixth homer in the second, was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Blue Jays (19-19). Kyle Phillips extended his hitting streak to 12 games with an RBI single in the seventh.
Dunedin starter Brandon Magee (1-3) surrendered four runs on eight hits and two walks over seven-plus innings. --Danny Wild/MLB.com"
Here is my take on the game. McCutchen pitched a nice game. He had good heat, not a lot of ball movement but really good placement. He went outide for strikes on right handed batters and then got some nice swinging Ks on low outside pitches.
The Yanks and Jays traded HRs in the second. Miranda homered for Tampa and then Butler homered for Dunedin (he was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs). The Yanks got a run in the 6th on two hits, an intentional pass and FC before the big RHP Magee worked out of the jam.
McCutchen in the 7th inning gave up a double, RBI single and another single before working out of the jam. He actually gave up 2 runs on 7 hits, not one as stated in the official wrap up. He still had a nice outing.
The Jay’s Magee loaded the bases in the 8th on three straight hits and was pulled. He gave up two more ERs on a SAC and FC given up by the lefty Dunedin reliever Harang. Magee looked good and probably should have been yanked after 7 before loading the bases to start the 8th. He has a a nice, even motion and good velocity.
Zach Kroenke pitched a hitless 8th for the Yanks as did Tressler for the Jays in the 9th. Eric Wordekemper got an ugly save giving up a 2B, sac fly, RBI single to start the inning. Another error on an easy play by SS Reegie Corona (his 13th and 5th in two games I saw live) extended the inning, but a pop out and FC ended the threat.
The Yanks managed 8 hits with 2 each for the not so sure handed Corona and the battling CF Tim Battle whose average now is .224. C Francisco Cervilli blocked a few errant pitches well. He was 0-3, lowering his average to .344. Prior to this game, his .450 OBP and .924 OPS looked pretty good to me. Seems like a nice kid, too. LF Jim Cooper is struggling at thd plate, too. He is .184 over 16 games and was 1/4 today. RF Tabata (.293), 2b Russo (.321) and Corona are the sticks for this team.
Luis Sojo is managing this little squad of guys. Looks like he's enjoying it. He was not available for a conversation. He has Clemens starting at home on Friday and Igawa (down in the minors now for a tuneup) starting Saturday.
