I think this kid is gonna have break out season on the mound. Let's see if I'm right!

Do we know how old he is?

19 or 20.

He turned 20 on January 12th.

He's making his first start for Charleston on Monday.

He gave up a hit, a walk, a stolen base and a run in this first.

AJ just missed a homer.

Nova gave up a homer in the second. He's bouncing a lot of curveballs.

1-2-3 3rd. He showed a great change and curve in the third.

Nova had a pretty average debut. It doesn't surprise me as a lot of our high upside kids have struggled for a few after promotion.

Strong second start. A little light on K's but no walks.

6 two hit shutout innings. Seems like he's pitching to contact cause his K's are not what his stuff says they should be.

Nova (W, 3-1) 6.2 5 1 0 2 4 0 1.44
Still light on the K's but the run was unearned and he keeps cruising.

his line, thoough I think it's wrong. He should only have 1 earned run. His GB/FB was 13/3. he really pitches to contact as the lack of K's attests.

With a nasty 95 MPH fastball, a great curve and a great changeup I'm shocked that he's not K'ing more guys...

With a nasty 95 MPH fastball, a great curve and a great changeup I'm shocked that he's not K'ing more guys... He wants to go longer in games, so he's trying not to work deep in counts. I'd still like the see more K's. "Pitching to contact" doesn't seem to be the best alternative when you have K the world stuff.

Pitching to contact is fucking up his numbers.

Nova 7.0 11 3 3 0 2 0 2.09
11 fucking hits, but no walks. ERA now over 2 and this pitching to contact shit is not helping. His K Rate is a joke for a guy with his kind of stuff (though maybe, as with our Trenton team, the infield D sucks).

Why pitching to contact. I don't understand the point of that at all.

To get him deeper in games.

To get him deeper in games. That's rarely a recipe for success. Wang is an outlier statistically.
